Q: I have a 92 toyota tercel, my cooling fan works, but it turns slow not strong ?
I have a 92 toyota tercel, my cooling fan works, but it turns slow not strong it makes the water(coolant) boil, whenever I unplug the wire from the cooling fan switch it turns stronger, what is the problem?
A: Your thermostat (different than the temp gauge) is likely malfuntioning. 2 ways to fix that - one is to have a mechanic replace the thermostat, the other is to simply rig your electric fan to a toggle switch and turn it on yourself whenever the temp gauge starts creeping up past the normal operating tempurature.
Q: Can someone tell me what my compression should read on a 1984 Toyota Tercel?
Its the 3A 4 cyl engine. I have looked everywhere and can't find anything. I have done my compression tests and have nothng to compare it too.. Thanks
A: New engines have a compression rating between 150 and 170 psi per cylinder. As they get older, they lose compression but many engines will run just fine with a reading of 105 psi per cylinder. Take the psi measurements for each of the 4 cylinders on your Tercel, if there is a variation of more than 10% on any of them, this could mean a rebuild is needed in the near future. For example, if your compression readings for cylinders 1 through 4 were: 135 psi, 125 psi, 90 psi and 125 psi, it would be fair to say that cylinder number three is not working efficiently and is almost certainly the cause of your oil burning, rough idle or poor fuel mileage.
You can determine what might be the problem on a cylinder that has a really low psi reading by doing a few more easy tests. First off, pour a tablespoon of clean engine oil into the cylinder through the spark plug hole and repeat the compression test. If the compression comes up after adding the oil, it appears that the cylinder's piston rings or bore are damaged or worn. If the pressure remains low, the valves may not be seating properly (a valve job is needed), or the head gasket may be blown near that cylinder. If compression in any two adjacent cylinders is low, and if the addition of oil doesn't help the compression, there is leakage past the head gasket. Oil and coolant in the combustion chamber can result from this problem. There may be evidence of water droplets on the engine dipstick when a head gasket has blown.
Q: is it possible to install a v8 engine on a 95 toyota tercel?
if so, what mods on the other parts would be needed. If not, why so?
A: Yes it's possible. I installed a 350 in a Vega! You have to tear the car right down to the chasis, build a frame to support the engine or it will twist the car. Next, you will need to replace the rear suspension and get an axle that can handle the V8 power. A custom 3 foot drive shaft must be made. Then install a roll cage and start building back the body around this engine! Put on an extra quiet exhaust and you'll have an unbeatable sleeper. The Vega could pull like 3g accelleration! It did the 1/4 mile in 6.4 seconds.
I hope you have a big wallet and a good welder!
Oh, it will cost you at least $3,000 if you do most of the work yourself.
Q: Location of 1985 Toyota Tercel 4WD fuse panel?
My outside signal lights aren't working, and neither do the signal blinkers inside the car on the front panel.
A: There are multiple fuse panels, and it really sounds like you blew a fusible link, which are a whole 'nother bucket of worms. Take it to a qualified tech.
Q: Sway Bar bushing replacement on a 1984 Toyota tercel sr5?
The bushings of the rear sway bar of my 1984 Toyota tercel sr5 (4wd wagon) have given out after 221000 miles and 22 years. Where the bar attaches to the frame on the passenger side the bushings are entirely gone, leaving the rear of my car bouncing side to side like a drunk hula dancer.
I need my car to go 500 miles on the interstate in less than a week. How much time will it take to fix these bushings? How do i know what to replace them with? Are there any tricks to getting everything down, apart, together, and back on?
I have a reasonable grasp of mechanics, but not a lot of time, or equipment. Any info is helpful and full instructions would be nothing but amazing... :)
Thanks, happy holidays, and drive safely!
A: they are the rear anti-roll bar D bushes and should be a real easy fix. i find doing them over a pit best but if you can't just jack the rear end and put it on stands.i can't remember exactly but there's either two bolts holding each bracket or one bolt each side with the other end hooking into the body. the two bolt type you undo the bolts the bar may drop a bit if you have the car jacked remove old bushes they have a slit in them to allow you to remove them as do the new ones.fit replacement bushes and bolt back together. the ones that hook in one end are the same but when refitting them its easier to hook both brackets in at the same time and put each bolt in afew threads before you bolt both up.if you do one up first it can make the second one quite difficult. And always replace as a pair if you can. i hope I've helped i cant remember when i last did an 80's 4wd Toyota but they should be all very similar
Q: My 93 toyota tercel runs rough after starting?
after warmup it runs better. What can I do to make it run better?
I think its the rings. The gas mileage is getting worse also.
A: She's getting old. Do ALL required maintenance. A compression test will let'cha know if you've excessive engine wear. Test fuel pump's flow / psi on the fuel rail.
Q: how bad are the toyota tercel (91 - 94) engine oil consumption?
ive heard these engine dont last long as the oil intake kills it?
do let me know as iam planning to buy a second hand 94 tercel with 140k miles on it
A: As with everything else, its the condition of the motor from the inside that matters.
If the motor was taken care of the the oil ring on the piston is functioning correctly, you should have a problem.
The only way to tell is to bring it to a mechanic and have them check that out for you.
Toyotas in general are built very well, and if the motor starts consuming oil, you can always change out the motor with a low mileage japanese one, which can be had for under 300-400, plus labor of course.
Q: My old car died on me, RIP 94 Toyota Tercel, the motor is toast among other things, what do I do with it?
I've been patching it up - it's a hand me down car
I got the transmission fixed like a year ago
Spark plugs
A head gasket
it even has new brakes
basically this car has been on life support for awhile, what do I do with it?
A: Exchange it, at a dealership get a better car instead of paying a crap load of money for everything else. some dealerships have pretty good deals.
Q: does the 1984 Toyota tercel sr5 alternator come with an interior or exterior voltage regulator?
A: I dont think they ma ke exterior regulators on cars anymore. It should be in there.
Q: Intermittent start issue on a 96 Toyota Tercel.?
Most of the time my 96 toyota tercel will start just fine. Then intermittently it will crank but not start. I have found if I pull the accessory fuse out and put it back in when I have this issue the car will start right up no problem. I've tried tracing the wires but have not seen a noticeable issue. The battery, altenator, starter, spark plugs, and spark plug wires have been replaced and still have the issue. Any ideas?
A: Why don't you try replacing the fuse or blowing out the connection in the fuse box with a can of compressed air? Either the fuse is about to go out or there is foreign matter in the fuse box that is preventing the fuse from seating properly or making a solid connection.
Q: Toyota Tercel timing belt and waterpump replacement cost
hi, i have a toyota tercel 1995 right now it is on 195000 KM, last time the water pump and timing belt were replaced in 2001 at 90000 KM.
should i replace it now, and how much will cost me at a private workshop labar parts.

A: It would be a good idea to do that before it breaks. Ballpark price 500 dollars.
Q: How do you change the automatic trans axle fluid and fill it on a 86 toyota tercel?
A: You need to drop the trans pan by removing all the bolts around the pan. They do not have drain plugs, so this job will be a bit messy. Order yourself a new filter and pan gasket once you remove the pan. Replace the filter and the pan with the bolts. Lower the car and use a long thin funnel, you add the fluid back in through the dipstick. About 3-4 quarts, drive it and get it hot and check the level on the dipstick one more time, add as needed.
